nissan patrol 3lt turbo diesal gu

im about to buy a gu 3lt turbo gu its a november 2003 model 16500 ks and im curious if any ones had any engin troubles with that year or later models i no they had probs with the earlier 3lts blowing piston rings and turbos and stuff

I know 5 people with Patrols powered by the grenade Ver 3.0.

Two are extremely happy with them and sing praises to the moon and back.
Two sold them after the engines blew up and the other dropped in the 6.5lt V8 after his went bang. Both those who sold them did buy 4.2 patrols so they were happy with the car, just not the engine.
All of the people who had them blow were 04 or earlier models.

With only 16,500 km i would be checking out whether or no it spent 5 years in a panel shop.
Any way i have heard of up to 2oo8 year model 3.0 td gu's going bang and holing a piston

Walter here's the current list on ZD30 engine blow ups on a few forums, It's too late to count them up but there's got to be close to 90 I would say. There's 39 on this forum alone.

I have never, ever heard of a single GU 3.0L failure EVER.

You're clearly being mislead.

I think you may be mistaking the 3.0L for the 4.2L which is the truely unreliable engine. Infact the 4.2L is so unreliable, Chuck Norris was once said to shed a tear for it.

bloke that owns auto safety check in brisbane had one blow at 90,000 kmand another less than 1000 km later... and other numerous problems with the zd30 and i was with him when they blew.

we all know hoy nissan drivelines are far superior to toyota,but many of there engines suck. zd30,rd28,tb42,rb30 list goes on are all major failures.

I'd be furious if i brought any 98 onwards diesel and it blew up at any of those kays.

How long have they been making diesel engines, they shouldn't really "blow up" at any kays (unless you're doing something that the motor wasn't designed for), wear out and use a bit of oil and generally become uneconomical to repair - yes (but with a lot more than 255k), blow up no.

I was yakking to a bloke this week & he has had two of them & not had any probs (I am not recommending them by any means) but one intersting thing he said to me was that it gets 14/100.

I get 11-12 on the highway in my 400,000km TD42 , 13 around town & the worst I have ever had is 17/100 with the van on. Not much advancement there even with all the DOHC & electrickery bits.

It seems that better fuel economy due to electrickery is still a long way off.

I had to tow a guy off the highway leading into brissy with 3l time bomb engine. He was sooo pissed off. It looked new aswell. All he said when i asked what was wrong as maybe i could fix it. was "BANG... Rattle rattle rattle" ha ha haaaa. I didnt dare say another word. Just towed him to a side street and left.

I think they are just too small, obviously either badly made or working outside of their meens trying to push a big patrol....????

Soccer moms seem to be happy with them.

my mate dad had a 2003 3ltr put the piston though the block then just after it was back on the road he blow the turbo with around 30,000km on the clock but besides that it was a good vehicle after the motor and turbo was replaced
