Back wheels bouncing?

Post by Lawrence »

Hi guys, the past couple weeks or so, everytime I hit a bad patch of road, the back wheels seem to bounce over the road surface. What would be the cause of this?

how bad a bounce?

if nothing else has been altered most likely shocks soft and or bent, also check your not running tyre pressures at stupid levels, this is most likley but there is more if you can tell us more.

What's the road surface like? What tyre pressures you running?

Could be something as simple as tyre pressures. I drove up the Tamboritha Road on the weekend, onto the dirt and only lasted about 4 kilometres before pulling over and dumping 15 lbs out of the tyres.

Pre pressure drop the arse end was all over the joint over the corrugations and post pressure drop the ride was smoother than Hank Moody.

Stock suspension actually. The road surface on the way home tends to be a sort of broken type of pavement on some parts

Same! I run 40psi in both my daily driver 32's and my 35" ET's. The only difference is that i usually only make it to the first set of corrugations before i pull over and air down. (   [scary]). You have literally NO control when you hit those ripples!

I run 18-20psi when i'm on gravel/offroad. I used to run in H4 too, but not now with the auto locker in the front  .

Lawrence, check your tyre pressures first, then check your upper and lower control arm bushes in the rear. A worn bush can give a bad knock when loading/unloading (eg. corrugated road), and also gives driveline slop similar to a crook uni joint or c/w & pinion slop.
