That's exactly the problem, cause here we don't have a lot of patrols and I can't get a GU air box, if I want to get one, I will have to get it from Nissan and I will have to pay 300 Aust dollars for it
i used the 2.4 box on a 2.8 hilux with a turbo, it was ok for that, using it on a 6 cylinder i believe will be very very restrictive. GU airboxes are even wider than the standard GQ box from what im led to believe.
I would run whichever one looks better and neater and if it feels restricted, try using a high flow air-filter such as a uni-filter or other.
I used a Hilux airbox and ground the inlet/outlet up to 3" and welded stainless on there (from a 2.4L diesel) and ran it on a 4.2L Worked turbo diesel with no airflow restrictions, even with the standard filter.
So these guys who say it will be very very restricted have not done it. As long as the filter has a big enough surface area and you upgrade the inlet and outlet pipes to the size you need, then you will be sweet.
They got nicer, a nicer drain bung, better paint and finally were made from plastic, but yep, same ring airfilter..
Nice fitup... They provide Plenty of surface area (like the whole filter). They have a great water drain system, The only drama with them is they are MASSIVE!!

And something else, bj on roids you said that early hilux air boxes were made from plastic, if I get one of those plastic ones, it will have the same dimensions and inlet / oulet size of the metal one?
That fit just nice Mavtd, do you think that the early let's say from the 90's until 2000 petrol hilux air box will have the same dimensions, plus inlet / oulet size as the one you have?
