45L fuel tanks

45L fuel tanks
Hey people
Just a question I spotted some 45l fuel tanks (ones that go under your sills, bolted to chassis) Whats everyones opinions on these?
You see I dont like being the only one that has to take extra jerry cans of fuel when we go 4wheeldrivin.
I really want them as the extra fueling capabilities would be great..... so any pros/cons or indeth information would be great.

A couple of things to think of,
where do they fill from most from the rear wheel arches which might be too much of a PITA and do they include pumps and fittings, the way I would run these is to have them pump back into the main tank, that way your fuel gauge will still work you should know how much fuel you have.
The other thing is with the nose up in the air it can make the fuel run back into the main tank and leak fuel as that tank fills up and overflows the main tank breather pushing fuel out the filler. I think fuel locks or inline pumps on both sill tanks would overcome this.

One thing you might consider is how far they hang down past your sills, If I remember corectly the pair I looked at hung down about 2 inches below which didn't excite me, though with a body lift that can be over come.

Ive currently got some of these in the for sale section. I used them in my disco for a couple of years. Mine fill at the front wheel arches well out of the way. They were a bit of a pain to fill up but then agian you dont have to fill up all that often either as you had an extra 90lts. Mine are custom made out of 2mm steel so they were very strong and basically lined up with chassis with a body lift. Therefore there were no clearance problems.
The fuel doesnt run into the main tank with inline pumps you have to activate a switch for transfer
The only reason Im selling them is because they dont fit under my 110 ie different mounting points etc. Otherwise I would be using them again so they are worth it in my opinion if you have a V8 or need to do long distances

I had a set of these a while back and sold them for $200, without the pumps and lines (were all rooted anyway!!!).
I thinkl they set you back about $7-800 for the tanks alone then extra for the pump and lines. Theyu dio jhang down a bit and could cop a nasty sharp rock off-road and potenially cause a leak, but a bodylifted Rangie you could re-mount the tank so it's tucked away.

Ok the Guy is asking $200 he says there in pretty good nik and they hang down about 1.5" below the seal.
They come with all lines brackets and pumps and its switch activated to feed back to the main tank.
I thought to my self for $200 i could purchase them now and fit them after I do the body lift
I dont mind having them sitting around for 6months
Just does anyone know about the TJM brand sill tanks I can find any pics of them or there general construction ? ? ?
Do these have baffles in them at al etc etc ? ? ?

I have them on my rangie, Had them lifted to suit the 3" body lift so no under hang. also had them modified so they fill through the floor of the car. This way you don't have to deal with the mud etc.
If i can offer 1 tip, depending on your driving type, get the bottom of the tanks double laminated. I was forever ripping them open on rocks, now with o 3mm plate on them i can jack the car up with them.
