Water pump gone?

Post by PJ.zook »

As most of you know i have the G16B in my zook now with a thermo fan. When its just sitting there idling the water heats up real hot from feeling the thermo housing at the back of the engine, so much so you cant touch it, but the radiator is still cool to the touch. If you rev the engine then the radiator really quickly gets hot and starts to cool the coolant.
This means my water pump is on its way out yeh? Not pumping coolant until its spinning quick?

Maybe your thermostat is on its way out. It might be trying to open but getting stuck and the extra pressure from the pump could push it open enough to force the water through.

I would have thought PJ that you would have replaced the water pump before you put the new engine in. It's almost a given in engine swaps to replace that sort of stuff before you drop it in.

Nah its a basic job to do it in situ, might just change it out anyway.

Is your motor heating up at all ? (ie overheating ?)

At idle it is not needing to dissapate alot of heat, so the thermostat may not be opening (this is what it is designed to do, get the motor up to a stable temp as quickly as possible)
