noise in gearbox??
noise in gearbox??
hey guy's ive just got my first sierra 91 modle i brought off a mate coz it has a loud noise while driving and his to lazy to fix it
i was just wondering what the first things i should check are at the moment i have the transfer case out and am thinking about pulling that apart, but was thinking it might be coming from the gearbox.
the noise starts at about 30km'h and just gets louder as you speed up also im pretty sure its not the diff

First thing to check would have been all the ratio's and combinations in the driveline. Find a gravel road and drive along testing out the driveline. Isolate where and when the noise comes from.
A bit more description of the noise will help. Is is a whine, grinding noise, scraping etc etc. Have you checked that there is oil in the drive line.
The more description and details you can give, the better we can help.
Layto....

the noise is a whine that just gets louder as you speed up once at 100km/h its real bad and ya cant even hear the cd player.
the car is completely stock so i think all the ratio's are ok
i prob should have done more checks b4 i pulled it apart like pulling the rear tail shaft out and seeing if it still made the noise while using the front diff

either
bit longer on the stands but not too bad.
putting it back in can be a pain with the crossmember getting in the way and clutch alignment.
some cut a V notch in the crossmember and it helps it out going out and in.
