GQ fuel problem?

hi guys my GQ 4.2 carby(lpg) is playing up.
When running on petrol havent tried gas yet, it will not hold idle just dies and it is doing alot of burbling and back firing on deceleration, it still drives ok but a little rough.
i have only had the car for 2 weeks and new to carby motors and also lpg so any help to put me in the right direction would be good.

The LPG gauge is also showing empty even though it is full,
both things happened within 5 mins of each other so not sure if it is related in anyway.

my lpg gauge was all over the place used to read full when empty seems like its getting to much fuel as this is what mine done on lpg it will pop out the exhaust mine also done this on deceleration

if its only doin it on petrol check the float level is not sticking and is set right

still drives fine on gas guys, sounds like it is overfueling on petrol.

just a thought is the mixer open to run fuel the mixer is the gas part on top of the carby some early ones use a manual lever much like a choke cable later model gas system use a solenoid vacuum i think but if thats close it explains the system

there is a silver leaver in the car, the only thing i have found it does is when on gas it makes the car stall, i think it is a older gas system.

a mate and i who knows a little about these types of motors is going to have a look around the carby tonight.

i disconected the lpg gauge and gave that leaver a few pumps and it seems to be running fine on both lpg and petrol. ill give the carby a good clean tonight

That lever is for running on petrol mate, you need to pull that lever to open up the gas mixer to let enough air in for it to run on petrol otherwise its just like having the choke on full time.

cool, asked the previous owner what that lever was for and he didnt know, so do i pull it all the way out and leave it out when running on petrol, then put it back in when running on gas?

Just make sure its all the way in when on gas.
