My navi has lost his house in Marysville - we'd both be happy to donate entry if event cancelled.

Anyone keen on a caravan fund from the event? $20 per team per checkpoint? That'd help buy a couple from fleabay... :D

Yea i would be more than happy enough to forward our entry fee as a donation. Just an idea but if pajero was say to be cancelled and there was a need for people to help with any cleaning up, the competitors who wish do do so could help with this on the weekend that the challenge was to take place. Just an idea!

Now that's an idea. We are planning on heading down from Sydney (2 teams). If it's not on, we'd still be happy to come down and lend a hand I'm sure.

Exactly what im was thinking after i posted...
We were all planning to be away so why not chip in with the time we set aside.. I'm sure we will be able to assist with a clean up.

Cancelled but understandable :(
Dear Drivers, Navigators & Check Point Officials

Given the horrific situation country Victoria has endured over the past week and the threat of ongoing fires in many areas the Challenge committee has decide to cancel the Cooper Tires Pajero Challenge for 2009.

The Pajero Club and the Challenge Committee agreed it would be inappropriate to run such an event under the current circumstances and the Pajero Club will refocus our resources and efforts to helping country Victoria rebuild over the weeks and months ahead. The Challenge Committee would like to encourage all participants & volunteers in the challenge to do likewise and help all those people who have been affected by this horrific situation.

On behalf of the Challenge Committee I would like to extend a special thanks to all our sponsors and we look forward to their support over the next 12 months while we work on the rebuilding programs. In addition we look forward to their support continuing onto the 2010 Cooper Tires Pajero Challenge and beyond.

Secondly special thanks to all the entrants and the numerous volunteers who make this one of Victoria's premier 4WD events and once again we look forward to your support in 2010 and beyond.

The Pajero Club Challenge Committee would like to offer the following options to all paying entrants of the 2009 Cooper Tires Pajero challenge:

1. Your entry fee be donated to the fire victims via "Red Cross" appeal (Tax receipts will be available)

2. Your entry fee be refunded by the Pajero Club

I would appreciate if you could advise me via email ASAP (Nominate your CAR NUMBER) which option you prefer

I trust that you understand and support our decision to cancel the 2009 event and refocus our efforts in helping those that have been affected by this catastrophic event.

Thanks on behalf of the Cooper Tires Pajero Challenge Committee

Regards

Just received an email from the organisers and the Challenge has been cancelled.
They have offered two options re entry fee 1) donate to fire victims via red cross or 2) refund.
I'm going with option 1 and donating my entry fee!
I urge all that can to donate your entry fee to the fire victims.
It is the least we can do to help with their pain.
See you all next year.

If any one is organising a group to help out with the clean up etc please post it here.

Cheers

i have decided to take my entry back. my cfa has spent many hundreds of hours working in all areas of the fires and we need new equipment and trucks si i will be using my entry to fund these purchases to help defend peoples lives and houses. my fiance didnt want to ask for the money back but i believe it to be a worthy reason.

Keith - Hats off to you and your CFA as with all the CFA/Ambos etc. they deserve a massive pat on the back, they also need all the support they can get. Glad to see your entry fee will be put to good use.
Cheers

Given the cash and goods already donated to the victims directly, I think donations to the local cfa would be a better cause.

The Annual Dandy Ranges 4wd swapmeet which is on the same weekend as the pajero challenge was supposed to be on will be donating its profits from the swapmeet to the Yarra Glen CFA.
So those who were competing and now have a free weekend, come along as the money will be going to a good cause.
