Just a quick question about how to stop water from destroying every part in my car. I know the simple solution is just not to go in it but thats no fun at all haha . I was playing round in the mud on the weekend and was having heaps of fun until I tried to start my car up the day after. Turns out the starter motor has died and ive now had to replace that. The alternator has also died but that was about a month ago now and I'm pretty sure that was just old age. I have a petrol v8 disco and am wondering how and what to keep the water away from? I know about the dizzy, alternator and air box but didn't realise the starter motor. It's so low and I'm not sure what I can do to protect it. I'm thinking about putting a box round the dizzy or even just a rubber glover with the fingers cut out haha! Any advice? Wishing I had a diesel right now
Starter should be sealed, glove is 1 way along with an alloy shield to guard the dizzy from water thrown up by the fan, also some guys pressurise the dizzy cap with a small air horn compressor. Or fit a HEI dizzy with coil in cap.

Starter motors and alternators on diesels don't like water either
You might want to consider moving the engine ECU if it's under the seat on your model... depends how deep you want to go though. Without extending/altering the loom you can normally get the ECU up high inside the dash somewhere.

Starter/Alternator will be fine in clean water as its the dirt that gets in the brushes that does the damage another small prevention option is to spray the electric with WD-40 loosen the fan belt and the obvious get a snorkel
