Centre Console/Console behind front seats...

Post by Buggerific »

Hey all...

Planning to fab up a centre console for my troopy. Having ditched the bench seat and putting in two single buckets I need to make up a console to put some crap in.

I'm also planning to make up a box for behind the front seats to sit between the seat and the cargo barrier. I want to put some speakers in it and have some storage.

Hoping some of you have made some similar things for your rigs. If you have some pics to inspire me that would be fantastic!!!

I just bought one of those $100 Waeco fridge things with drink holders and wedged it between the seats.

Looked champion, centre console when switched off, fridge and drink holders on the front too.

i have a waeco 18ltr fridge that fits snug in between the seats. it's in a hdj79 so should be the same space between the seats as what you have. holds 23 cans. mmm icy cold beer waiting for me after work!

they're cheap too only $500-$600 from memory.

Unless they are actually rated as a fridge most are just classed as coolers and performance is usually indicated as being able to cool up to 20 degrees below ambient. Great if the day or more importantly inside your truck never gets above about 23 degrees. Helps to put extremely cold drinks in to start with and maybe a couple of frozen bottles of water.

Mine came with a centre console the previous owner knocked up. Looks pretty good, but now that it's there, you'll be suprised at the amount of crap you fill it with. CD's, coins, leftover screws, keys, chip wrappers, coke bottles, business cards, pens etc. I'll clean it out tomorrow and take a pic.

If I was to make a new one I'd make it taller, put a lid on it and use it as an arm rest. Also allows people to stand on it when they climb through into the back (not so important to you). Make sure it has cup holders. You could also add some 12v outlets in it too, or some space to add switches in the future.

Yeah there's a console in there at the moment but its pretty crap... and yes, it does end up full of all sorts of stuff.

Going to incorporate cup holders into the new one as well.

I dont think the 18ltr waeco will fit because those small coolers would only just squeeze in there. I find my cooler back with some frozen bottles works well enough anyway with the fridge in the back for long trips.

Thanks mate, a pic would be sweet

They look and work better than anything you will make for under $100.

Its not a fridge.. Think of it like an esky.

all i did was move the passenger seat about 20mm towards the door and with the drivers seat just moved it as far as the square holes would let me. proper 18lt fridge weaco cf18.
