Headlight Adjustment?

I had the headlights out during the last rebuild of my Sierra, I also fit some HID's in at the same time.

Now to ensure I don't blind anyone I referred to the workshop manual for setting them up, it states to position car 10m from vertical wall and adjust so the centre of the light lands between level and 1/5 height of headlight height.

When I searched google this method of basing it off the headlight height seems to be the standard way of doing it.

Now my question is should I factor a 250mm lift into the equation? So would I take "headlight height" as 250mm lower than they are now? They are now set as per manual (lifted height) and I haven't driven at night yet but they seem way to high.

I would have thought at a set distance the light should land at a set height regardless of headlight height.

I simply wait for dark then goto a flat bit of road then ajust it so I can see up the road but not too far other wise it'll blind cars etc as they are lower on the road but not so low that you can't see signs etc.

250 mm really isn't that bigger deal - i'd be imagine it'd hard to measure the light beam within 50mm accuracy! Just get it rough - then if you find you can see inside everyones cars wind em down a bit

same here, focus them slightly to the left as well so they dont blind oncoming traffic

Seems I'll just need to test them out and adjust to what 'seems' right.

I may not have explained the 1/5th bit right, the correct height at 10m is between level and 1/5th lower then headlight height, so if a stock height is 750mm and lifted is 1m then the beam should focus between 600mm - 750mm for stock and 800mm - 1m for the lifted.
If I were to adjust them to point at the stock height they would be pointing down a fair bit, I guess as long as they are pointing down even a little they shouldn't get in anyones eyes.

also make sure u can legally run them as without autodip and washer i thought they were illegal?

Have headlights 4mts from a wall. Measure to middle of light lens. Put on low beam. Put a mark on wall 35mm lower than said measurement. Adjust the top of the light pattern to mark. Works for me.
