im thinking of putting a v8 in the old girl does any1 have any sujestions on what will be involed as i have been told it will be a nightmare to do
Well you'll spend about $10k just getting engine, trans, adaptors, wiring harness and interface, radiator, A/C adaptor etc etc. And judging by your vague questions I'd hazarding a guess that you aren't too mechanically minded so also factor in paying someone about $60-90 per hour for at least 40-50 hours and that's how much is involved.
Of course if you do it yourself you'll save on labour but it will take much longer and your without a ride the whole time. Depending on whats wrong with your existing engine / vehicle, getting an exchange engine can see the swap done in a weekend with ease and you have a brand new engine that utilises all the facory wiring and ancillaries specifically designed for your 4WD.
To be honest, wacking in a V8 is a cool thing but I've never met anyone who hasn't had some kind of drama with it and that includes the guys that know what their doing.
Cheers,
Nath

IF IT MOVES, SHOOT IT
IF IT DOESNT, CUT IT DOWN
IF ITS GREEN, PISS ON IT
IF IT DOESNT, CUT IT DOWN
IF ITS GREEN, PISS ON IT
It is easy enough to do...
What sort of V8?
Why that V8?
Why do you want a V8?
You need to ask yourself a lot of questions about why you wanna do it, and then set some goals and targets you want to acheive from the conversion... Otherwise you will end up off the road for months, and get nowhere putting a dirty old 253 in it!
