GQ standard diffs into GU???
GQ standard diffs into GU???
Hi.
Bought a GQ weekend warrior.
Getting rid of my GU wagon.
I would like to swap my 4.3s and Front Airlocker into the GQ which i have been told will fit.
But, will the GQ diffs swap back into the GU.
Both are the small diff models.

flanges are different between (3.9, 4.1) and the (4.625) ratios only as the 4.6 ratios only came in the 2.8 diesels and they run the smaller transfer and box. but if you have 4.6s allready on your GU 4.2 or GQ 4.2 then just chuck the driveshafts youve allready had made in your new toy.GUte wrote:Flanges different between GU and GQ.
Al.
i dont personally know about 4.3s as i havent ever seen them.
that make sense?
out of curiosity, does the RB30 motored patrols have smaller flanges too?
turbos are nice but i'd rather be blown
When I put whole diffs out of a 2.8 GU into my GQ patrol it was only the rear flange that was different. All we did was seperate the tail shaft and run the rear half of the GU tail shaft with the front half of my GQ tail shaft.chunderlicious wrote:flanges are different between (3.9, 4.1) and the (4.625) ratios only as the 4.6 ratios only came in the 2.8 diesels and they run the smaller transfer and box. but if you have 4.6s allready on your GU 4.2 or GQ 4.2 then just chuck the driveshafts youve allready had made in your new toy.GUte wrote:Flanges different between GU and GQ.

depends on where exactly it is widermoney_killer wrote:will just putting in a front gu diff in the gq effect the turn steering and handling seems the gu front is 40mm wider ?
but even if it was wider in the axle (not the hub) then as long as you used the right steering arm/s panhard it would be sweet.
hands and mums dont count!!!
Definately swap the complete front diff, much stronger CV joints. I'd be swapping the steering box as well, they help with the turning circle and are stronger.
I've previously swapped both diffs complete, steering box, drag link etc from a '99 GU DX into a "94 GQ RX. GU diffs are about 40mm wider than GQ.
Chunderlicious, I didn't think the RD28's used a smaller transfer case.
