just wondering if anyone has used an oil cooler on a F310 to help with overheating issues/problems.
I am looking at ways i can reduce the risk of overheating before it happens to my new engine and i thought a should see what opinions there are........

Yes have used an oil 2 water style unit ( as fitted to Applauses ) and full blown oil 2 air.
The oil 2 water was more about keeping the oil temp down rather than helping the overall cooling and it did do its job BUT it adds more load to the radiator so really solves one issue and creates another.
Also made up a remote oil filter cooler adapter that replaces the original oil filter and allows a cooler to be plumber in as well.
This worked HOWEVER I was lucky, I had a RX2 oil cooler which has a built in thermostatic bypass to stop the oil being overcooled - a problem if you fit a cooler that's theoretically too large in an attempt to help the water system.
And on a related subject - I fairly convnced that the problem is a lack of water flow and a poor head design. Someone fitted an electric water pump and reported prommising results.
This backs up my experience - I've got a three row radiator, massive thermo, moved thermostat, new hoses etc etc..... on paper it has heaps of cooling but still is borderline.
As theres not a lot of room for an oil cooler anywhere but in fornt of the radiator ( which adds to the radiators problems ) - IMO the electric water pump is a great idea.

Yeh i did think about overcooling but i hadnt really looked into it too much.
I would be looking at an oil 2 air and looking at placing the cooler elsewhere instead of infront of the radiator.
I realise its the water side of things thats the real issue my only thought was that every little bit helps!
so far i have only overheated once (my old engine) and that was because i was luggin my set of tyres and some other spares in the boot on a hot day, on the freeway, uphill with a blocked radiator.
i have to admit that since i put the new engine in (used the old waterpump as it was almost new) and flushed the inside and outside of the radiator i havnt had any problems yet. (fingers crossed!)
