just wondering if any one can tell me which tire is better BF Goodrich muddy or the STT Cooper. i need some new tires for my cruiser. and if any one has had problems with ether

A mate has bfg on the back and cooper on the front of his 100. he has torn chunks out of the bfg's pretty bad but the coopers seem to be holding up better.

I say Coopers - I've never managed to drink BFGs.
I don't know about "coolness" factor, but I was with my Mum yesterday when a 4wd drove past on tyres making a dreadful howl - she asked what was wrong with it. It didn't stop, so I couldn't see what the tyres were, but my STTs don't make noise like that.
I like my STTs, but my S/Ts wore much better.
Re: the comment about front/rear wear. My rear tyres always seem to chip/cut worse than my front tyres. I guess it's because I get most wheelspin during climbs, when the rears are more heavily loaded.
I think MT/Rs are worth considering, but I think they started a trend, and the market has out-developed them.
You could also look at Toyo's MT, and even the MT ATZ looks pretty good to me.

BFG tires are definitely the way to go. I run BFG muds on my F350 and BFGs on my grand cherokee, coopers stt on my TI nissan GQ and we race on MTRs good year. The coopers on my nissan are noisy and have had to replace one at 4000kms definitely over rated. When we go away to comps the F350 with the race car and all our gear can go as much as 8ton and i am on my 3rd set of BFGs and these are the only tires that hold up to this sort of weight towing off road. Yes i have tried others. They have low road noise but do seem to require precision balancing. The MTRs offer great grip off road but are just to soft if pushed hard resulting in many a torn side wall.
I have to admit, that I've had a not very impressive experience with Cooper tyres (tires???) and when I bought my last set of tyres I also ruled out Mickey Thompson because of their relationship between them and Cooper tyres - same Aust distributor also. Likewise with Procomp etc. I wanted absolutely nothing to do with any of them, and at this stage cant see myself changing that.

I run STTs on the wifes Prado and until recently ran the BFG KM2s on my Lux honestly they are pretty much the same off road, no one is stronger than the other in any element. The STTs are wearing great and have held up really well.
I only changed the KM2s as I went a larger size, if anything i would say the STTs are probably quieter although that is pretty hard to compare as the Lux is no where as sound proofed as the Prado.

I think we all know who the sheep are don't we.
The latest MTR/s and KM2 are going to leave the STTs for dead once there more available. Then we will probably see another tyre made by Cooper that will copy one of them.
After having Coopers, MTR/s and now BFG KM on my Cruiser I would recomend the BFGs or the MTR/s as they left the Coopers for dead in just about every situation on road and off. Id imagine the new MTR and the KM2 would be even better the there older versions too.

under my zuk the STT has been brilliant - i thrash the hell out of them offroad and on and theyre showing next to zero tread wear, although a few cuts and chips (to be expected with my driving style).
theyre dead quiet on the road, grip brilliantly in the wet and seem to just love mud and rock (although theyre not so crash hot on sand i reckon, they dig in too much).

I have always been a fan of Cooper tyres. I had 2 sets of ST's. The first set were replaced at 117,000km, the second set lasted about 80,000km then I changed to STT's and they only lasted 50,000km before the front tyres needed replacing (so I replaced all of them). At first I thought that the STT's were better in every way than the ST's, but after about 20,000km they started feeling rougher and noisier and to be honest I was quite disappointed in them overall. On my zook, I have had 235/75r15 MTR's for the past 4 years. They have done over 80,000km (1/2 to 2/3 worn now), excellent on road, even better off road, never any punctures or other tyre damage, totally reliable for me. BTW- the Cooper ST's were 31x10.5 on my old NA Pajero SWB (1200kg), the STT's were 31x10.5 on my NG Pajero LWB (1600kg) and the MTR's are on my 900kg zook.

As disturbing as agreeing with Bogged is, I do agree. I had 35" MT/R's on the old Mav' and always went well, on and off road. My boss bought Coopers and experienced that in the sand they got too hot and then chunks came off them in the rough stuff.
My mate is on his fourth set of Coopers and swears by them.
I purchased a set of second hand Coopers ATR's for $50 each, fitted. I reckon they are shit hot.
