Ok, I'm toying around with different ideas for mounting up my transfer case on my LWB. For various reasons, the stock mounts are going to be a PITA to run so I'm trying to think of alternatives.
What I have so far is to weld simple mounts to the chassis and run 4 bits of tube (in a vague X shape) between the tcase and frame. The tube will be welded to 6mm plate at the tcase ends and bolted to the stock tcase bolt holes, and run control arm bushes at the frame ends and attach to the frame via a 12mm high tensile bolt. Dodgy 5 min Paint pic below.
So yeah, basically I want to know your thoughts on whether this will work or is it shady as all fark?
Will the bushes be too restrictive or allow too much movement (they are control arm bushes from a torana, I have no idea why I have them)?
I was also planning on welding gussets between the 'V' of each side of the mount, cool or not cool?
From what I can work out, this way mounts to the frame at 4 points rather than the stock 3, so it presumably will be stronger, or have I missed something glaringly obvious?
So yeah, tear it to shreds people.

been runnung that style of mount for years now...works a treat. here is a pic of one i did recently for a twin transfer set up. (base cradle, transfer mounting holes and brackets not shown.)

Seems like a good idea. Although logic seems to tell me that by having the bushes so far away from the tranny it might put too much strain on certain bolts whenever the case is flexing under load.
I think to strengthen it you would need to have both mounts connected to each other in a cradle style of mopunt to provide some rigidity to the setup that you have. I think if you are going to all the trouble of building a completely custom setup you could incorporate a bashpate and link into a few more tranny bolts for strength.
The Front view to me seems like the case would demolish itself under high load???
anyway I think the green bit i added would provide some extra strength to the setup, ala rocktoy ring style.
Otherwide cool idea. joeblow has some pretty cool transfer tube cradle he made up...seen pics but not sure where....(EDIT: as joe sneaks in while i'm writing this post!)

Great minds Dank, great minds. I actually have a Roctoy ring here (that in my drunken state I forgot to mention) that will tie in the two sides of the mount. Thanks for the insight though.
Joe, I'm glad to hear that you think it will be sweet. Just so you know, it's not going to be as quality as what you posted but as long as it holds up, I'll be a happy camper. Cheers mate. Have you had any problems with the transfer flexing under load too much or too little? ie are the bushes too restrictive or not firm enough?

I'm liking ya thinkin guys (saves me doing too much)
Got any more pics of the Sierra setup (2nd last pic) Joe?
Do these mount the transfer in standard position or did you raise the tranfer during the process?
PS: Joe how about some build up threads in Members, you do some awesome work and I would like to see (read copy) more.

Just wondering, by doing this are you transferring the load from the mounts to the actual transfer case housing? I know a few guys that have broken the housing with standard mounts.
I know V8 you said you will use a rocktoy ring but where some of these designs dont have them I think I would definitely be trying to incorporate it in, its cheap insurance for your gears.
Hope this helps
