UHF Antenna Wiring...

Post by Buggerific »

Hi there,

I want to run two different antennas for my UHF for different terrains. The only problem is they won't simply mount to the same base so I need to run two seperate antennas to the UHF radio unit.

Can I split the antenna output from the back of the unit OR should I wire in a switch between the two antennas?

Any input would be grand...

You can buy a switch to switch between the 2 antennae.

http://www.andrewscom.com.au/site-conte ... sories.htm

Coaxial antenna switches
Type Price $(AUD)
ANDREWS 2-position coaxial antenna switch, 1kW (0.2dB @ 600MHz) $39.00
COMET CSW-201G 2-pos. coax. ant. switch, 1.5kW (0.12dB @ 600MHz) $59.00
COMET CSW-30N 2-pos. coax. ant. switch, 1.5kW, 0.05dB @ 1GHz, 0.1dB to 2.6GHZ! Good up to 2.6GHz! $139.00
DIAMOND CX-210A 2-pos. coax. ant. switch 1.5kW (0.05dB @ 500MHz) $79.00
DIAMOND CX-210N N-type, 1.5kW, (0.05dB @ 500MHz) good to 3GHz! $89.00
DIAMOND CX-310A 3-pos. 1.5kW (0.1dB @ 500MHz, 0.15dB @ 1GHz) $149.00
DIAMOND CX-310N 3-pos. 1.5kW (0.1dB @ 500Mhz, 0.2dB @ 1.5GHz) $159.00
3-position coaxial push-button CB antenna switch (about 0.5dB loss!) $19.00

I'd personally go the top one for $39.00 in your situation.

Just fit a base in the engine bay and have the 2 plugs from each antennae there to fit as needed.

Nah im a bit of a perfectionist, I would much rather run a switch than have to plug and unplug...
