hey there ive got a td4.2 engines done 240.000ks with aftermarket turbo im new to the deisel scene and ive gotta do an oil change just wondering whats the best oil to run that i can get from supper cheap or were ever... cheerzz

id suggest delo400 or shell rimula x.

in saying that how often were these cars serviced every five thousand or every fifty thousand and the reason diesel oil turns to sludge is because of lack of service and detergants in the oil.brad-chevlux wrote:i guess at the time i just didn't have camera.

Do some searches, its been discussed, there was some discussion about calcuim based oils and magnesium based oils - can't remember exactly, one of them was recommended for jap diesels, one wasn't (was more aimed at american stuff (cat, cummins etc) I know that RX super wasn't ideal - thats why Castrol make Jmax - for jap diesels. Rimula X was the shell equivalent of Jmax - the correct oil for jap diesels.
Can't recall any others - a search will turn up answers
Fwiw i run rimula X, change it and filters every 5k, works out about $70 per change - (20l of rim x is about $100 and 2 fleetgaurds are $20 - depending on year of td42)

560,000 klms he removed the head, and using oil /filters each 5000klms, you could see the cross hatching in the bores from new still.

As to Penrite Oils if your using HPR your using the wrong one, for the non turbo you should be using HPR 15 and the turbo versions should use HPR 5.
The HPR version of the oil was designed for older motors or motors that have had a hard life and have started to use oil.

High viscosity engine oil for use in older diesel engines operating in extreme climates, under high loads or where oil consumption with conventional viscosity grades is a problem. May be used in turbocharged engines. SAE 20W-60, API CH-4/SJ, ACEA A3/B3, M2C 911-A1, Global DLD-1

the problem with those penrite oils is they have no zinc dithiophosphate in them.
ZDDP is the best high pressure additive known to oil companies.
due to emissions regs you can't have it in modern engines.
The problems start when trying to use these zero ZDDP oils in older engines.
Older engines are just not designed to run with modern oils.
the fuchs and gulfwestern have the highest content of ZDDP of ANY oil sold in Australia. the gulf western XDO is so high it can't be sold out of Aust.
of the high ZDDP oils the XDO also has the highest ash content.

I just thought there might've been someone like isuzurover thats actually gone and done testing etc. But i suppose the oil companies have been spinning crap about how good their stuff is since the 1800's.
