So here it is!
2009 Logan Challenge Competitor’s Team Vehicle Requirements
In every vehicle:
• Helmet for both driver and navigator – (must carry sticker that reflects AS/NZS1698:2006 Protective helmets for Vehicle Users)
• 1 x Snatch strap. (In good condition. No frays or damage)
• 2 x Rated “D” or bow shackles (Min 3.25T rating)
• Rated recovery points front and rear painted red.
• .9kg dry powder fire extinguisher. (must be mounted in easy reach of both driver and navigator)
• 1 x comprehensive first aid kit.
• 1 x spare tyre (relevant size to tyres being competed on)
• 1 x Jack (rated to life the vehicle) and wheel brace.
• Minimum 1 x UHF radio (477 MHz)
• 1 x operational torch
• Minimum 4 functioning indicators (two from and two rear)
• Minimum 2 functioning park lights (as separate from the headlights or part of the head light assembly. Head lights on low beam do not class as parkers)
All vehicles must be as expected to be roadworthy
In Winch Vehicles: (In addition to the basic requirements)
• 2 x sets of finger enclosed “riggers” style gloves. (Motor cross gloves acceptable)
• Minimum 2 x 1kgh (dry weight) winch cable dampeners (500mm x 900mm min size)
• Minimum 1 x snatch block
• Minimum 1 x 8000kg tree trunk protector. (minimum width 75mm good condition no frays or damage)
• 1 x winch extension strap (good condition no frays or damage)
Team Requirements
• Minimum of 1 x GPS
• Minimum of 1 vehicle mounted winch
• Minimum of 1 hand winch (portable electric winches are not permitted)
• Each team must have a total of 4 x UHF radios (477 MHz) to be tuned to official channel at ALL times (I hand held radio recommended)
• Each team must bring a digital camera in working order.
• Minimum of 1 compass
• Each team must have at least one air compressor. Either vehicle mounted or portable
• Team manager
4a. Wheels and tyres: Tyre size is unlimited. Wheels are unlimited. Beadlocked rims are permitted. Agricultural tyres of any description are not permitted. Wheel chains of any type are not permitted. Wheel and tyre combinations can protrude the vehicle body but must be accompanied by flare material. Wheel spacers are permitted up to a maximum of 75mm and must have their own wheel studs.
4b. Engine: Department of transport modifications only. Must be blue plated.
4c. Transmission: Unlimited. Non standard gearbox and transfer cases are permitted. Dual transfer cases are permitted. Ratio reducing gear sets are permitted.
4d. Drive Train: Traction aids are permitted. Ratio reducing gear sets are permitted. 4 wheel steering is not permitted.
4e. Suspension: Department of transport approval (blue plate) for changes to original suspension configuration to vehicle are required. e.g. Change from leaf sprung vehicle to coil sprung.
4f. Lights: Headlights, park lights tail lights, indicators, and stop lights must be in good and working order. Additional lighting is unlimited. Roof mounted spot lights are permitted.
4g. Recovery: As stated in section 2 – Compulsory Equipment.
4h. Soft Top Vehicles: Must have a suitable roll bar for the vehicle. Please note: A fiberglass roof, half or full, does not qualify as a hard top, however it shall be classed as a hard top if the roof consists of 3mm min thickness aluminum sheet or 2mm min thickness steel plate roof panel. It shall extend the full width of the vehicle and from the windscreen frame to the rollover protection and shall terminate behind the heads of the crew. This sheet must be safely secured to the vehicle and must not have any sharp edges.
4i. General: Each vehicle must have a minimum of one spare tyre. The spare tyre must be the same size as the tyres that the vehicle is competing with.
