You don't have to, but if you're doing the MC etc then it would be a good idea. Probably give a bigger noticeable braking upgrade then the rear discs will ;)

i believe the turbo surf ones are the big calipers too- What diameter pistons do the V6's run?

can you stick v6/turbo front calipers straight onto a good ol ln106 lux front end?

do you need to change anything else? and how much difference will it make? my brakes suck.

Same goes for the TD Surfs, mine only has the 40mm pistons (what I measured with tape measure so may actually be 42mm) and am after some 45mm ones if anyone has some ;)

Think from 92 on the Surfs had the 45mm calipers.

I got the V6 booster off nemesis, with my LN106 callipers new pads front and rear, and lifted the brake bias arm up on the rear, i noticed a difference.

My lux failed the brake test for rego and with this easily passed, my brakes basically lock up with 33's now.

And yes the different callipers bolt straight on, but calliper may touch inside of some rims (can fix this with a grinder but ;) )

so you kept the standard calipers but put a better booster on? makes sence, as mine seems to take too much pedal pushing to get enough brake power.

noob q though. whats a brake bias arm, where to i find it and how dio i raise it

Yeh my master cylinder was fine, the V6 model are a double diaphragm booster (the same as a 80 series one i think)

The brake bias is basically a valve on the rear of your truck (just above your rear diff on the right hand side) it has a rod that comes off and bolts to a bracket on the LHS of your diff. Basically (in standard form) the more you load up your 4by the rear springs will sag and basically what the bias valve does is the more is sags the more the rod lifts up and the valve allows more brake fluid pressure to your drums, thus they work better for when you have a bigger load.

Thats the idea (if it makes sence) so if you have lifted your truck eg- 4" then the point on your diff where the arm comes out of the valve to the diff and bolts on with two bolts a 4" extension bracket needs to be made to allow the valve to work as it did from factory.

yeh it is a good idea to get the V6 callipers as well as it will be more effective, but mine are fine as it is.

No i don't have discs all round, i was looking on the Locktup web site and seen the disc brake conversion kit for the rear of the lux.. might give it a go in a bit but have no need for it ATM. I moved to WA for work for a short period of time and have changed to 32's for now  copps did not like me here.

The other thing is if you have a earlier model lux (i think the petrol 4cyl and 2.4 diesel) they have alot smaller drum brakes on the rear also.
My LN106 2.8 diesel have the same larger ones (same as 2.4TD) as the 6cyl model.

So might be worth looking into that as well if it is yours.

Basically before i done it my rear drums were not even working, so this with the new booster, new pads front and rear, lifted brake bias bracket, machined f&R drums/ discs, new rear wheel cylinders, and all blead properly i actually could stop.

But if you wanted it better again find some V6 callipers.

Gday
I got a pair of v6 callipers from a aussie wreck, and the pistons were 45mm, to measure them you really need to pop one out...the part that pushes against the pad is different sized. The v6 calliper is identified by a wider disc appeture, as they run 28mm discs. This does not interfere with their operation on a std 20mm disc. They also have a wierd fingerprint pattern on the outer side nearest the hub.
I ran these plus 80 booster master on a 60 series with 35's with an awsome pedal, a bit light if anythig, i could lock up fronts without too much pressure at all.
