Just a little more grunt

Post by MUZZ »

Hi everyone I'm new to the forum just got myself a 90 hilux with 2.8d thats really solid but still a standard hilux slug so i was wondering if any of you had any tips on doing some cheap mods to the motor or gears to get some extra speed and/or economy, cant afford a turbo or another motor so any cost effective suggestions would be welcome.
thanx.

already bought a safari snorkel, installing soon

GO! the hilux ;)

Extractors - free flowing exhaust - @$1000.00

Dyno tune and open pump - advance timing....simple stuff - u should have bought something with power really... 2.8 4 cyl isn't exactly a beast waiting to be unleashed you know... :D

Careful if you ever turbo the 2.8 as well - the heads like to stttttrrrreeeettttccchhh a bit - seen 3 do it so far in 2 years.
80 Series Turbo - the Toy car...
XR6 Turbo - the work car...
XW wagon - the dogs car...

Thanks for the tip i was thinking of extractors too but i heard that putting extractors on some motors can actually cause the engine to lose power because it loses the backpressure it requires, i dont know if this is the case for the 2.8 D , probably not but in any case if there is anyone out there that has done it to a 2.8 please let me know what the results were and was it worth it? also any tips on changing diff ratio/gears on a lux would be welcome. thanx

Snorkel combind with extractors and free flow exhaust will get better results, and with the ratios you only need to change them if you fit bigger tyres.
