80 gxl rims

Post by RN 36 »

I remember a few years ago a bloke in the Landcruiser club who could not find a slow leak in a gxl wheel. After two or three different tyre dealers he took the tyre of the rim and found a crack you could only see from the inside. When he asked around he found quite a few people who could not find slow leaks in there wheels.

I've got one that is split or cracked. I didn't think it was common. The standard wheels seem to be pretty heavy and good quality. I'd only ever heard that they were good. The damaged wheel i've got doesn't have any dents (looks fine - done alot of k's though). Took me awhile to work out it was the rim leaking and not the tyre!

MMMMMMMMMMMM so it does happen?

Might be worth me looking at other wheels rather than buying 2nd hand 80's GXL rims?

meh it will be fine, the likely hood of getting a cracked one would be low.

so far i have bought 14 gxl rims (all second hand) for my truck (I am gready and run 3 different tread patterns) IMO they are stronger than after market wheels.
they are very thick and solid
so far i have had 1 leak it is not so much a structural crack as the wheels have sealant on the inside where the wheel halves and hub meet.
this is where they leak .
i could have fixed it by resealing instead i swapped it to a rim that i was going to run a tube in any way

toyota had a special on these rims a month or 2 back my be worth giving them a call it worked out at about $140 per rim brand new!!!!
