Baleno motor question

Post by Mike E »

Has anyone installed a baleno motor that runs a distributor instead of a coil pack into a sierra? What would be involved making the distributor fit?
I have tried searching but every baleno conversion i could find used a coil pack motor.

Cheers
Mike

Search and use the bible about fitting a G16B out of a Vitara, same engine pretty much.

You will need a vitara camshaft and distributor swapped in to the baleno head.

Is it possible to use a different distributor cap and rotor or some sort of angle drive set up like people use on gti motors?

What are you trying to work out? Do you have a baleno dizzy motor and you're trying to make it work? or are you trying to avoid using a coil pack motor (because if so, I'd use the coil pack motor)

I'm not aware of any conversion so you'd have to do some custom work. Maybe the Mazda GTX (?) cap night help a bit, but I've seen a swift G 16B in a sierra and the whole distributor was in the cab, not just the cap.

I'd still say that by far the easiest conversion will be a vitara dizzy and cam - should be pretty easy to come by.

Baleno coil pack motors are way cheap..And easier to fit then the dizzy one.(less mechanical bits swaping over)

But if i had the dizzy motor already, i would get the vit cams and dizzy.

My options were

Coilpack baleno motor 1.6
90' Dizzy Vitara motor 1.6

Dizzys coming straight out of the head into the firewall will look like poo.

i would get a coilpack motor but the local wreckers want 3 times as much for it as a dizzy motor and vitara 1.6s are rarer than hens teeth down here.
I'll have to look into the vitara cam and dizzy option, is there anything else i should swap over while i'm at it?

Yep, now I just gotta get my arse into gear :D

That price included them doing all the removal, and delivery!!!

Interestingly the ECU is different to the earlier (2002ish) Baleno ECU. It has an extra plug!
