i blew the 5 spd in my shorty MQ and it has taken me 6 months to find a gear box that is under $1000 i bought a whole 82 shorty with a 4 spd will it fit straight into my 84? also how can i remove the box the easiest by myself? and also i have a v8 in my 84 can i reuse the bell housing?

Sorry mate but bad news.. the gearbox mounts are about 10cm different 4 speed to 5 speed and also the shifter is in a different spot.. you will need to cut off the mounts and move them and probably notch out the floor or bend the gear lever to make it fit.

can i still use the tail shafts from my 5spd still ? any ideas who can look at my 5spd and tell me if its blown for cheap? it fell out jumping in a carpark or any ideas how to fix this problem??

nah forgot that the 5 speed tailshaft is shorter than the 4speed cos the 5th gear added length to the gearbox.. sorry im on the other side of the country to you.. think it might just be best to go to a gearbox place..

is it worth putting my 5spd back in to see if its working ?? stupidly i took it out b4 finding out about it there were only 3 fingertight bolts holding the bellhousing on to the 308 and when i gear down (compresion lock up) like a jake brake in any gear it felt like a grinding and it would pop out of gear.
