Tailshaft probs after 4-5 inch lift
Tailshaft probs after 4-5 inch lift
Hi .
Finished of my lift on my GQ project on the weekend
The lift came out of my GU wagon, and has come up taller in the GQ.
My front Tailshaft suffers from bad vibration once the hubs are locked, i have had the cross member tubed to give plenty of clearance so i can fit spacers to the cross member and lower it.
But this is where the problem is!
the rear tailshat is already very close to the bracing tube between the chassis.
If i lower the crossmember to reduce the front shaft angle.
I lower the rear one onto the bracing tube.
i can space the Gearbox up off the mount, but it increases the front shaft angle
I cant win no matter what i try.
What am i missing.

Is your rear tailshaft turned around so it's got the skinny bit over the crossmember? Mine touched until I turned it around. (Edit: Damn, beaten by a millisecond.. )
Failing that, there's pics on Patrol4x4.com where someone's either shaved or crushed the rear crossmember a bit to allow more clearance.

Have teh same issues with my GU ute, rear tailshaft has a nice line around it from wear.
Thought about a spacer on the rear output of the transfer, which would cause it to clear by a fraction more, but seems uncommon for Patrol owners to do this.
Otherwise it will be heat and a sledge.
I run drop boxes and have no ill effects with the front shaft.

U'll need to run a cardan joint on the front shaft at the transfer case end. My mate had the same problem with his GU after fitting a 5" lift. I fitted a cardan joint to the front tailshaft and problem fixed, hope this helps. Cheers Steve.
