lifting IFS hilux by winding torsion bars problems

ok i just lifted my truck on the front by doing up the torsion bars. its 3-4mm of the top bump stop (so i only have 3-4 mm down travel).

im just wondering by doing this, iam i on the way to break something now that it is lifted with stock torsion bars. i know the CV angle thing and mine arnt to bad but i rarely use 4WD up here in weipa and there no hard core tracks here. but im wondering what damage am i doin to my truck now?

You shouldn't break anything with it lifted. From what you've said, it sounds like you've done the standard 40mm or so wind.

But what might happen is the steering may start to wear faster than normal. Things like idler arms and tie rod ends are working at slightly different angles to what they were designed for.

But bottom line is you should be ok.

check out the ball joint spacer kits with a front diff drop.
That way your cv's stay at a good angle.
Also free wheeling hubs help.

Had a ute that comes into work that had the torsion bars wound up and it would drop the bottom balljoint every 3-4 months. It was a rodeo 2wd courier ute that as of last week had over 900 000 kms on the clock.

i just bought a BJ spacer kit tonight to stick onto my newly acquired 95 hilux.

i also bought some 2in lifted rear springs and longer shocks to suit.

I know i could just wind up the front torsen bars but i wanted to retain some droop.

so far total cost for my revised suspension is

Rear Springs and 4 shocks: $605
Front ball joint spacer kit: $190

Cranking the front torsen bars: freee baby


im now just hoping the 2in extended shocks i bought will actually allow enough droop factor now that im using the bj spacer kit. Hoping this wont cane the CVs so much either with the revised angle.

Hopefully everything arrives next week along with my 33's.. :D :D

then its fraser island baby :D !!!

oh i gues i should really fix the no 4x4 problem first but u know.. eh :P

anyone put me onto a LOKKA front diff to suit the IFS model?
