Im sure everyone is sick of answering tyre q's but Ill ask anyway
Im looking at tyres and it seems all the AT's are just as much as the buckshots and the bighorns are only a bit more then that.
Just wondering what makes a better onroad tyre as thats what they will mostly do. Im just thinking muddies cos they seem to have deeper tread and are also a bit more resistant to puncher etc.
A/T's won't wear as fast as the muddies. Simple as that really.
Muddies will look blinger, but really, if they are mostly a DD thing, is it worth replacing them every year or so? I'd rather have the A/Ts and not blow all my money on replacing worn muds that never see offroad.
go the buckshots, i was told by the tyre bloke they last a lot longer on road than the bighorns. Ive got buckshots, theyre wearing well and probably do 90% road driving.
i couldnt justify buying AT's either, at least now i can go for a little play without swapping to the treps
I ran the Bighorns, and most of it was on road, under a 75 series full of tools.
I had them for 2 years, and they still had plenty of tread, i will be getting them again for road tyres.
They do get noisy though as they get older, but not as bad as some, off road they are Brilliant for what they are, and for the price i don't think there is another tyre that can hold a candle to them.
I was quoted 360 per tyre for 35's, so they are exelent value in my opinion
The other option I was looking at was something like the toyo AT's which are about the same $'s as the buckshots.
I dont really hit mud that much, im to lazy to clean it and I have a 2.5t van so it tends to sink pretty quick.
I like tracks like Ormeau which tends to be a bit hard on tyres which is why I was thinking more along the muddies line. Mainly a strength thing i guess. Mmmm to many options.
if the choice is buckshots and bighorns ive had both.
bighorns shit all over the mudders.
bighorns grip better on and off road
wear better and run quieter after a few kms
and the price difference is fark all
I run bighorns on all my work utes 5 in total, can't praise them highly enough.
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.
I've never had big horns but had buckshots, no complaints about them on road or off. They are one of the quietest mud tyres on road I've ever heard and couldn't even notice them over the other noises in my zook. I went through a few really really deep bog holes with them also and they performed flawlessly in the mud. I also did alot of hardcore offroading in dry dirt and rocky hills over a period of about a year with them and never had a puncture, and they are now on my ex's jimny and still going strong.
For the price I would just go the big horns though and have the benifit of side biters which the buckshots lack.
