bought a GV :: was - about to buy a GV

Post by skippy »

Hey folks,

Am about to buy a GV. its been a few years since I've been zookin and I'm getting really antsy to get back into some soft c**k 4b'ing. Back when I had my Sierra there were a few virgining companies specialising in bolt on mods for zooks. snake was one of them and I see they have some parts available but I'm looking for others also to source as much as I can, as I'm far to lazy to engineer stuff anymore. I've moved into my own furniture business so working with wood is my game, not metals.

It might be easier to list the vehicle i'm looking at and then the list of mods I'm thinking of.

2001 Suzuki Grand Vitara Sport SQ625 S2 5sp manual, 5 door wagon

mods:
- suspension 2-3"
- body 2"
- front winch bar
- rear bar (with 2" receiver preferably)
- snorkel
- air locker rear
- nurf bars
- wheel spacers
- dif protection
- front and belly skid plates
- roof rack cage

I'm going to be contacting the usual people: arb, tjm etc. but forum member usually have experience in sourcing good quality parts at good prices.

Thanks folks. looking forward to getting back off road and creating a thread on the build. with any luck I'll have the car tomorrow.

cheers
skip.

hi Skippy and welcome to the world of the GV :)

Dont bother going to any of those stores you mentioned as the answer is no!!

off the shelf from those stores you can get a 35-40mm lift and a roof rack cage.

i can supply

Snorkel, 3-4inch lift, bash plates, nerf bar, front winch bar and you have a airbagged vehicle so no body lift is legal.

air lockers you have to swap for a vitara diff so thats a bit of work.

but shop around to see what you can find

Damn we all thought you were long gone...

is the esky tub sierra still around?

you are getting manual so at least will have the steel front member.
SQ625 , thats the 2.5 v6? just watch out for the timing chain slap and associated issues.

sounds like good fun. :)

Hey Nic,

I've no idea if my old sierra is still around. Last I heard it was in Townsville and got painted canary yellow. haha. A few people have sent me PM's thinking I had died somewhere or something. I disappeared after selling my spook and getting married. I've since divorced that woman and am looking to add to my toy collection ;)

Tim,
have you got a website or pics I can check out? Also, thanks for the heads up on the body lift. your website link in your profile doesn't work.

As I mentioned, it'll be a soft c**k 4b doing mostly light duty off roading. Certainly won't become an ARB Winch Challenge rig or anything LOL

Didn't think anyone made a winch bar for the GV. Give us more info on this.

Didn't know anyone made any rear bars for these either.....

cheers

ok, so I pick up the GV tomorrow. Its a 2003 4 door, v6, S2 sport.

before the end of the easter weekend is over I will have had the front and rear bars off for measurements on the mounting points. a new stereo, touch navigation will go in using a din replacement for the stocker stereo unit, uhf will go in and I'll begin setting up the wiring harness for the lighting rig that will ultimately be attached to the basket I'm having made up for the roof.

what I will do:
- snorkel
- under body armor
- slider
- winch bar
- rear bar with swing away tire carrier
- 2" suspension
- possibly 2" body

I'm also working on a slide in/out system for the rear area to store a fridge and camping equipment. put it in when I need it and pull it out when a daily driver.

I'm also looking into the replacement of the third members and switch to manual locking hubs so I can install some arb air lockers. Add to this some gears I'll pick up from calmini when I'm in the states on my honeymoon in september.

Tim, I think I sent you an email on the 4wd action forum about the winch bar or using my rig as a play toy for other mod parts.

looking forward to posting up pics as the rig transforms from a standard rig to something a little more fun.

They won't have any gears for you. They haven't had 5.83 diff gears for years and t-case gears don't fit a manual V6, only the auto model. You can swap in Vit R&P's though. 4.625, 4.875 & 5.125
