installing shackles

Post by 88pajero »

Im installing some anti inversion shackles to my troopy (started tonight) and I have ran into a small issue. I cant get the bloody things to line up, and now that I have removed the stock shackles, i cant get them to line up either grrr. But it is dark so I gave up without much of a fight!

Is there a certain knack to installing shackles? The old ones came out easy but it looks like the spring isnt sitting square so I cant get the bushes to line up so I cant get get it back togeather at the moment.

If it makes any difference I have only taken the right rear out and ive got the body sitting on stands with the wheel off with no tension on the springs. Should I go about it another way? Any help would be great because when the sun comes up again ill be tackleing it again.

Got it all done and took it for a spin earlier, phark it flexes well now, really well! Its heaps smoother to ride in and it doesnt seem to have effected handleing at all. I used the 45mm efs anti inversion shackles. I just need a wheel allignment now.

I dont think I will go 35s now though. With the extra flex it now has I discovered that it scrubs in a few places at full flex, so I will iron those problems out and stick with the 33s I think!

Is that a common thing to happen, the scrubbing once extended shackles are fitted???

Yeah it can be a problem.. the little bit of lift you get helps but the longer shackles actually move the wheels forward or back a little so you should find that the new scrubbing will be on the other side of the tyre to your shackles..

cheers, ill go and have a closer look today and figure out how to fix it. The rear seems to be only just rubbing on a small piece of tubing that I can grind back so there is no real issue there, but at full lock when flexing a fair bit the front did rub a bit.
