issues with turbo-ing a td42
issues with turbo-ing a td42
i'm thinking about a turbo for my td42. just interested to know of any issues after installation, particularly costly/big problems like cracked heads etc. it's got 323,000 on the clock and still runs well. just did a trip from melb, over the snowies and back around through gippsland and got 12/100km with 35s and no ratios. bit slow up hills but otherwise fine. any comments would be great.
gq with stuff
Does no-one use the search anymore or look back through more the a couple of days worth of threads ?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????.
I dont think you will find anyone on here who has turboed a td42!! good luck.

Agree with Coxy321 100%.
Just did mine a couple of months ago. Runs nice. Heaps more of everything, but make sure it is tuned properly !!! Have mates who have done a back yard tune job and thier truck ends up running like a hairy goat.
Only thing I underestimated was the extra heat generated under the hood. Am dealing with that now. Cooling system is 100% but still not quite up to the task in standard form. I have a triple core radiator but still not quite enough when engine is working hard. Looking at bonnet scoop options now.
Minor stuff though considering the grin that is on my face now every time I get in it.

turbo a td 42
i got a denco kit,3" exhaust [no muffler],boost guage.installed myself, backed the pump off a bit, tried it.standard boost from denco was 7 lbs.dialled it up to 10lbs.went well.got warm up the toowoomba range.got a 3 core radiator.was a bit cooler.kept it like this for 14 months,3 core developed a weep so i took it out and put the orig one back in but i locked up the viscous hub on the fan as well.i can now flog the guts out of it at 15 lbs boost with a horse float on at 120 kph and it wont go past half on the temp guage.the fan makes a bit more noise but who cares when its got a straight through exhaust.

Re: turbo td42
I get the stopping/starting thing sometimes, but only after water crossings. Could you tell us how you locked yours up?265grunter wrote:it wasnt stuffed, you could hear it stopping and starting but i did it on a sunday so i couldnt get any oil locally.the way i locked it can be reversed so it can be used again.im not that bothered by it.
turbo 4.2
split the hub and inset a 80mm dia x 8 mm "O" ring and re assemble.it preloads the hub about 3mm and then it cant turn even against the compression of the engine.cheap fix i know but i wasted $500 bucks on the advice of "experts"!!!!!!
