I replaced my oil seal on the rear of my 80 series a few weekends ago and the bugger is leaking oil again through my bearings and onto my handbrake shoes
I also had issues with the same thing with my old 60 series,, i ended up replacing the 60's axle shaft as it was too far worn to seal properly.
I couldnt see/feel any wear where the seal seats around the shaft so i didnt replace the shaft,, but its leaking again....
Is there an oversize seal that can be used here?(i obtained o/s seals to put in my 60 series diff where the tailshaft/yoke goes into the diff), or has anyone got any tips tricks ideas suggestions when replacing this part..

Leaky rear axle shaft, 80 series

the bearing was a tad loose,, pullled it apart today.
I guess that when i put it all back together the other day, the new brake pads made me think there was enough tension on the bearing adjusting nut.
ive got a new axle oil seal (and a inner dust seal as well to replace today as it has been fouled heaps,, so its probably suspect too!!)
ill see how i go over the next few days as im heading to ballarat tomorrow, so if it leaks again ill know by the time i get near melb/barrarat tomorrow morn and i suppose ill deal with it there if need be.

its best to remove the caliper and disk/drum when adjusting the wheel bearing so you know you've got the preload correct. the little seal is difficult to get correctly aligned and is easily damaged, too. it's a good idea to get genuine or Japanese genuine-equivalent seals, the taiwanese jobs are more difficult to install and will not last.

All seems good, 500 odd kms later mostly highway and it seems ok....
when i did it yesterday i had the caliper off, but not on purpose,,, ill remember that for when i have to do the job next time. those small oil seals ARE fiddly, they seem to move by themselves if they aren't seated true.. i found i can press them in by hand with a large socket(fits perfect!!),,then i can see if the socket lines up straight..
