GQ AUTO speed sensor

Post by bowtie landie »

Hi, the GQ Patrol auto has a speed sensor at the speedo head which provides a signal for the computer.

I want to set up a dash with aftermarket guages - probably AutoMeter. AutoMeter speedo's have a 0-5v signal output for processors but AutoMeter are unable to tell me if it is a compatible signal for the Patrol auto computer.

Has anyone had any experience setting up aftermarket guages with a GQ auto and obtaining a proper signal?

Thanks

Hasn't anyone used a GQ auto in anything other than a GQ before? Anyone that has used a GQ auto in a conversion would have come across this problem before.
Anyone?

I'm using the GQ auto and have an Autronic ecu on the motor but I went with a full manual valve body.
I would think it very unlikely that someone would go to so much trouble engine dash etc and then run the rubish factory tcu! I removed mine before I did almost anything else.

But thinking about it. I would assume that the speed signal to the TCU would come direct from the speed sensor in the transfer case rather than going through the speedo and then back to the tcu. The wiring diagram isn't very clear as it says speedo and speed sensor? So I'm not sure about that but the speedo and speed sensor are comon to all GQ's.
Just a thought?

The wire would be spliced off, one going to TCU then one going to Speed-o

It is - and I presume that the ecu requires both signals. I am not running a fuel injected motor so the ecu is the 'auto only' type ecu.

thanks guys
