ARB Airlockers and the front diff question

Hey guys,

Im looking at putting ARB Airlockers in the front and rear of my 1991 SWB Vitara. I know that diff lockers normally arent recommended in the front bacause of the aluminium diff housing, but i am sure i read somewhere that this problem was eliminated with some kits as the entire diff housing is replaced as with the ARB Airlockers.

Is this true? Will the ARB Airlockers replace the week part in the front diff?

I have searched through this forum and google and have only been able to find information on locked diff conversions not selectable locked diffs.

unless your bashing into rocks and cmashing your housing, the air locker wont harm your diff.
your C.Vs may not be happy with it depending of your driving style and driving conditions, is rock= bad, mud= not so bad, webwheel=fine

Plenty of vit alloy centres that are used hard have scattered their internals across a track.

The GV has an iron centre (that will bolt in) I do not know of any lockers that replace the entire centre.

I wheeled with an ARB in an alloy diff without problems on 31's and 33's until I installed the Calmini 3"suspension. The diff drop bracket then become an issue due to incorrect sized bolt holes but that's another story. I have also witnessed alloy diffs bust with open diffs and small tyres due to driver error, particularly loading it up in reverse.

The GV or XL-7 steel diff takes the worry out though. They can be found in all GV & XL-7 V6 manuals and in V6 autos from late '03 on. The pinion mount has two variations, one which bolts straight in and one which needs a little fabbing.
