2.8 Turbo/D

Post by alanc »

I have a 90 jack 2.8 T/D and it is amazingly economical but fairly slow.
I have often wondered how to pick up a bit more power but am sobered to find the same specs right through to 2000 rodeo.
Why has the factory not refined the engine if it was easy to do?
Noticed that the rodeo 3.0 has~ 20% more torque and it appears to be the same block. It has different injectors and pump and an intercooler but the capacity is only 7% up on the 2.8? I do not know if is dependant on a computer as well.
Does anyone know if the motor will bolt into an early of if the icylinder head, injectors and pump will fit the 2.8?
What other mods will release some of the potential of the old 2.8?
Regards, Al.

Hi, Thanks for that.
I had read the preceding 2.8 comments but hoped there was someone that could extend the subject even further.
I have since read that the bulk of extra performance 2.8 to 3.0 is due to the higher pressure pump and five port injectors. These combine to produce finer atomisation and, therefore, more complete combustion. The cylinder head has revised chamber shape as well. I still don,t know what part a computer may play in all this.
Anyone out there know anything more?
Regards, Al.
