Best turbo for 2.8 hilux
im currently putting a ct20 turbo on my 2.8 hilux
and im currently reminded that this turbo is probably a little to small for the engine..
(1) what turbo would be the best suited??
(2) where do i buy this turbo?
(3) how much?
(4) only new, or second hand available?

The Ct20 runs out of efficiency about 3000rpm which with my gear ratios is perfect.
The beauty of a ct 20 set up is that for 500 bucks second hand your away.
The beauty of a denco or safari or any other top brand is that they are modern technology which will perform better but at about 6 times the price. work on 3 grand or more deoending on your skills and who fits it etc. they are rare to find second hand.
put the ct20 and see if your happy? it took 6 months before i finally got mine running the way i wanted mainly due to bad wastegates and not having fit up my pyro.
Now with 10psi and a bit of extra fuel but with safe exhaust temps i can use 1 - 2 gears higher on the same roads and stay on the speed limit on all but the steepest hills. I can even overtake without huge run ups etc. overall im now very happy with thew ct20. and would not bother upgrading.

yeh was always planning on fitting up the ct20 just wanted some more opinions on it and possible upgrades.
herd anything about the ct26? been told there the upgraded (and better) version on the ct20.
when you say it loses effiency at 3000 does it stop boosting? i.e if u have a boost gage connected does it drop boost around 3000rpm?

Yeah they start to drop off around 300rpm.
The best turbo i hav seen is a mitsubishi TD04. Its off the mitsubishi evo cars. they come on about 1100rpm (opposed to 1800rpm - ct20) and they drop off around 3400rpm. Friend had one for years and it outdoes all the new hiluxs and bt50's and sh#t.
Pick them up for about $800 rebuilt.

both turbos have been on my 2.4 all dyno'ed with both muddys and road tyres 33/13.5 8inch steel rims and small roads on 7inch alloys

if so sorry ,i think you may have missunderstood what i meant, a t26 can run up to 21psi of course the would also mean you would have to have a engine that could cope with it, run a 2lt which i give 13psi

so the ct26 and where from (near townsville). Are the oil lines and water lines the same as ct20?
i understand a new exhaust manifold will have to get made up.
What safe boost should i run if its intercooled.. 12-15psi?

You could lower the compression by getting a thicker head gasket made up, therefore lowering compression ratio.
