Vit/sierra radiator qtn..
Vit/sierra radiator qtn..
Good day!! Well went to go for a play in the zook y'day with the new motor (1.6 EFI into Sierra). I thought i would try using the 1.3 radiator and shroud, but with the 1.6 fan. When i first started the eng, i let it warm up to normal operating temp. Inside the radiator, the coolant was flowing through nicely. The top hose was nice and warm (didnt check bottom). I thought you ripper! So y'day on the way to go playing, i got 10 k down the highway, and the temp gauge kept coming up. In the end, it was near the red, so i pulled up, and sure enough.. it had just started boiling . Grr!! So, has anyone used a 1.3 rad with a 1.6 EFI motor before?? Theres no oil in the water or vise-versa.. so hopefully the head is ok? Could it still be the thermostat?? And i've got a hilux radiator.. should i put that in? (seems like an ok fit) Or get a vitara one? Thanks heaps

I'm using my original 1.3 radiator (in a very shameful state I might add), with the g16b, for the time being.
It seems to be doing a great job, with no shroud and standard 1.6 engine fan, according to my original sierra temp gauge (reading a bit over 1/3 at running temp).
That said, I vaguely remember reading on here, someone saying that they too were showing these sorts of temps with the vitara sender, but after switching to a g13 sender, it read alot hotter. or something along those lines...
Ill be switching to my vitara radiator with original shroud in the near future to avoid any further when I pop the bonnet.
cheers

oh yes, forgot to add that im using the 1.3 sender. Thanks for the replys.. what i might do then is continue putting the hilux radiator in, and replace the thermostat. The bottom outlet for the lux radiator is on the passenger side bottom.. and its gotta go to the drivers side of the motor. If i run pipe for the majority of the length (obviously have the rubber hoses each end of the pipe), would this be ok? The overall length of this hose will be around 1200mm. I wont have room to run a engine fan with this setup either.. so will be a thermo fan job!!

That length of hose will be fine, only problem is more joints to fail.
Im running a 1.6 with the 1.3 radiator and thermo fan. It takes it a long time to even switch the thermo on so the sierra radiator seems to do a good job, i have yet to test it in harsh hot conditions though.
Its useless using the 1.6 sender with the 1.3 gauge i found too, with the engine sitting at 110deg the sierra gauge is barely at halfway.

Does anyone "please" know if there are any other type of thermostat housing that fits onto a G16B?? The one on there now faces towards the drivers side of the vehicle, but it would make life heaps easier if i could put one on that faces straight towards the front of the vehicle!! I reckon im pushing shit uphill.. but thought i might ask anyway.. just incase!!

When I got a new thermostat from repco on the back of the box it had the range of vehicles that it fitted. It's probably a long shot but if you check out those vehicles thermostat housings you may find one that fits.
