Early cruiser..?

I just made a deal with a customer of mine to do some windscreens and glass in his hot rod for an early land cruiser.
He said it was a 1976 hj40 or something like that,he wasn't sure .
It is a short wheel base utility.no tray just a ute,similar to an early landrover ute .The ute and cab are one section.
It sports the wiper box on the window frame but the window frame is different to a 45 or a later model,its more like a flat panel.
It has already been modified running a 3.9 litre ford motor four speed ,looks to be lifted a bit with sunrasiers and mud tyres on it.
I havn't had much to do with this earlier stuff as i thought my 60 series was old..
Does any one know much about these old girls ,have i scored or lost out.
Since i don't pay for the glass i spose i have scored but any info would be appreciated.

G'day
Is there a chance that it is a toyota Stout or something like that. They look pretty similar to the forty from a distance, but are a bit smaller, kinda like a zook. I'm pretty sure they came as utes.
The only other thing I can think of is a Forty ute body mounted onto a shorty chassis (a very trick mod that I want to do some day). I do agree that photos would help.

Definitely not a stout and the guy that i am getting it off said its original like that.
From the front it looks like a 45,... sorta.
But its really short with a little ute back on it,the roof is really more square than a 45 ,and the spare is on the tailgate door .

sounds like an FJ40 with a ute roof and rear window added to make a swb ute. Like the one in the picture

Na its a sharper roof line ,more square edges,and from memory it hasn't got the little bent windows.
But very similar.
The only way i am going to do this is take some photo's of it and post it up.

Sounds to me like a BJ 40 (seeing as he called it a HJ) with a homemade cab back on it. I had a FJ40 with a FJ45 cab back and roof on it which looked like a short ute type Cruiser but it had the curved windows of the 45 in it.

It is definitely PRE 1976. I am thinking it may be a 1960s model.

What you are describing sounds like the non detachable roof, FJ45 SWB. H&B are diesels, F is petrol motors.
hands and mums dont count!!!

No , I am not giving up on the Zook Luke,and NO you can't have it. :shock:
The cruiser is going to kept out at my inlaws place who own nearly 400 acres of low lying country near Cresceant head .Lots of mud and swamp area's that will be just great fun to play in.
Maybe one day i will bring it home and make something of it , thats if i can get it back off Richo(my Father in law)
I have just found out that there is a couple of spare diffs that come with the deal.Apparently the ones that are in it are 4.11 or something and the others are 3.08 ,spares ,He said the ones that are in it gave him better speed.

pre 1976 some with the 3 speed had a 3.73:1 ratio.

Well she turns out to be a 67 model 40 series ,i still don't know what the story is with the roof,i don't think its original but inside ,under the blue paint its painted a horrible orangey sort of colour which makes me think it may have been an old Telicom vehicle,i dont think any one would paint there own truck this colour.
The big ford six still turns over but whether she goes or not is a different story,the 302 might have to go in it.
Any easy suggestions for motor gearbox and transfer swaps any body,,?
Has any body ever seen a roof put on a shorty like this..?

do you know what year it is? I think it would be a 1960's model judgeing from the front indicators, rear reflectors and the under windscreen vent. Not a bad score considering the price! What type of engine does it have? If it's the original F motor it should have either a 135 or 155 sticker on the rocker cover. These are very simple and very reliable Toyotas. I wish i still had the old 3 speed i used to drive.

i'd say the roof looks like an original steel one cut down with a custom back section and those louvred sides. Can't really recomend any engine or drivetrain mods. Depends how much money you want to spend. The one i had had the standard 3 speed and transfer and worked fine with 33"tyres

ive only seen the newer 40s in a ute like that. but ive havent seen many old 40s.
id probably stick with manual for a farm car. just get a 4spd from a later cruiser and whack the 302 on it. (not sure about bell housings and crap.)

Its already got the four speed in it,plus some cancer.But i still want it to be a weapon regardless of if its a farm vehicle or not.. :D

;) furry muff. well then sourcing a 4sd is done. if the 3.9 is running id leave that in it will go pretty good id imagine. just cut it all and patch it with steel plate. or tube frame it :D no more guards to worry about. fit tractor tyres. she'll go anywhere.
