Blowing smoke

Post by tez »

Hi, had to do a longish run in the Hilux today and noticed something with it, just wondering what the probs could be.

Its also just been converted to gas, although I dont think thats the problem.

When I put a bit of a bootful into the car while sitting on about 100km/h, some smoke was visible from behind the car. Hard to tell if it was blue or white because I was looking ahead  It seems to last for a few seconds then disappears. Happened every now and then and when I got to a lower speed, I couldnt replicate it.

Oil is fine, water is fine. Does it sound like the rings or stem seals are gone / going? I was running on lpg at the time so I guess it cant be excessive fuel etc from the carby.

Also its a 22r engine.

Thanks

Shouldn't be valve stem seals, they usually only leak after ideling or engine braking.

Most likely rings if its blowing smoke under load and revs.

The engine has done about 235000. Ive had the ute for about 2 months and the oil was changed before I bought it.

Doesnt seem to always smoke when sitting idle and I dont drive it enough to be able to confirm if its on take off at the lights. It only was blowing a bit of smoke last night when I gave it a bootful on the motorway.

Oil appears to be fine and coolant ok. I did have to top up the coolant reservoir today with about 250mls or so. There is a bit of water spitting out of the exhaust when I started it up, although thats probably just condensation?
