gearbox equaliser tube install questions

Post by vk2icj »

Greetings

Ok I have a 60 series HJ that has some whirring in my gearbox. It was low on oil the other day and I filled it up. The noise went away after filling the oil. Now it is making the whirring sound again. I read about the equaliser tube kits so I went to REPCO (What a rip off) and bought an equaliser kit $80 now my question is does the tube connect the two filler holes on the gearbox and transfer case or does it connect the drain holes? Or does it connect them is some combination?

Thanks for any help

Filler holes mate.

Can you post a photo of the kit. I'd like to see it.

That sorta looks like it. However that kit says itś for the Hilux gearbox. Is that the same for the Landcruiser? My gearbox is the H155

Here is the one the Roodogs has for the 60

Wish I would have seen that one before going to REPCO. The REPCO one though has a clear hose which might be kinda nice to be able to see the oil maybe lol I'm just trying to justify an extra $35 dollarss

It goes between the 2 filler / oil level bungs. When the seal between them is shot, the oil pumps from the transfer to the gearbox. As the gearbox fills up the oil runs out of the gearbox level hole back to the transfer case. A little bit of oil will run back to the transfer when you go up a really steep hill but it soon levels out. I have run this system on my FJ62 for over 10 years with no problems. I am currently using the one from Roodogs Spares and it's great.

G`day,
Yep the bypass tube definatly goes in the filler plugs. I fitted one after the seal broke in my 40 When I rebuilt the transmission after the T/case and gearbox smashed. the hole in the side of the t/case was big enough to fit your head into so I can tell you that putting the tube on is a must if you want to save big $$$$ in the future.
also regular oil changes go a long way to a hassle free transmission.
