couple questions bout 40, 45, and/or 60 series cruisers

Post by Wambat »

hey fellas

would you be able to help me out in getting the ratio and tourque figures for a pto on the split tranfer case on each modle, if it changes between them???

oh and the 40 series cruisers do they all have the fuel tank in the cabin??? and the 45 do they aswell, or as it is a ute are they under the tray??

cheers

Not sure about the torque figures, but i would have thought ratio would be the same on them all as the gearbox is pretty much the same, H41 for 4 speed on bj42 and all hj47, and 5 speed H55f on late bj42 and mid-late 60 (from about late '83 on). Split box only came on the post 79 models, bj42, Hj47 and 60 series. Bj40, Hj45, fj55 all had 1 piece case. They started putting the fuel tanks under the body around about 1977 for both the bj40 and hj45 as far as im aware. Utes still had the fuel tank under body, ie, it doesnt protrude past the body into the tray area.

cheers for the info guys, is the split case the only one that can accept a pto? or can they all accept one? if so would you be able to point me in the direction of the ratio for the transfer case that it could put out, both in high and low if that is how it drives. of if it only has one speed, that would be greatly appreciated.

you can get a pto for either the split case or the 1 piece transfer

the only ajustable gear ratio is using the gearbox 1st to 5th(or 4th)

i take it you havnt used one before pretty much you put the transfer case into nutral then select what gear depending on how fast you wanna winch at and rev the motor to ajust the speed

there where a few pto drives that had reverse in them and i beleive some where also 2 speed but ive never seen one or heard of anyone that had one

you can also use reverse on ya gearbox to release the tension on the cable

ihave also heard of people doing a modification so that the pto can be used while the car is being driven, or are they simply not disengaging the transfer???

if that is not adviseable, i may look at a system running off the motor....

also just so i can ask the dumb questions now so i am sort of informed later, if i use say 4th, as in most manuals fourth is the 1:1 ratio, if i used that my pto would be doing one rev for each of the motors???

is there any way i can work out the tourque developed at that point, as yet i dunno why i need to know but i will make sure i understand better soon...

the pto can be used while driving but only in 1st or second and then the winch is really slow and pretty much you cant match the wheel speed so you end up digging huge ruts while doing it i normally winch in 3rd or 4th hell even 5th if its only light going

pretty sure the pto driveshaft is the 1-1 ratio or dam close but i havnt counted gear teeth in the drive unit but then the pto winch head has a massive reduction from the worm drive to side gear would be well over 100-1 IMO

45's and 60's run pretty much the same sort of themes so you should be right going over it.

Look for rust in the chassis on the 45. Dont know why but they seem very prone to it. I have seen quite a few 45 chassis with dodgy patches welded in and some even filled with bog.

well, as i hadnt seen it for my self, and was told 1980 ute, i went that would be a 45. well it was an 88 ute, so it is actually a 75, as i went and had a look today, i test drove it and chucked it in 4wd, as it hadnt been in it for a very long time i think, it was quite hard to get back out, but once i did it went in and out easyer.

al in all, it wasnt what i thought it was, but i think i will go for it any ways,

anything i should know, as im going back tomorrow, to see the guy that was in charge of the transaction(it is a company ute) so i was talking to his off sider today, had a nice big box on the back, and from what i know of its use, i think it has seen very little heavy weight since this mob has used it.
