that works if you owned it from new, or its had quality oil from new.

changing to good oil will also clean the engine even if it's been run with shit oil for most of it's life.

but that doesn't mean every product those companies make is good

i personly will never use anything els.
search for oil tests on the net, read through as much info as you can and email the companies.

you'll soon work out who sells oil based on the product, and who sells it based on marketing hype

I have found some additives can help extend the life of older dodgy auto-transmissions. They are a bit different though, dependent on friction plates and valve bodies.

I wouldn't use them in an engine, as the oil should have a suitable additive pack.

I just stuck 2 x 250ml bottles of 'Calibre' engine flush (from SuperCheap) and let it idle for 20 mins.

I'd been slack with the service (8000k's overdue!!) and there was no visible clumps of shit, but its always had good, semi synthetic oil (10W-40). After I put the new oil in (Nissan semi syn 10W-40), after initial start up, when I stopped to check the oil level, the oil seemed to stay semi clean.

I wonder how much difference the $90 would be over the $18 for the 'Calibre'?

"After initial start up, when I stopped to check the oil level, the oil seemed to stay semi clean" - Not much of a test of the product at that early stage
my 2 cents

"I wonder how much difference the $90 would be over the $18 for the 'Calibre'?" - Ask CEM

Very interesting reading indeed, pretty scary really when you consider the about of Z9's sold oz wide as replacement for genuine.
