Mech pump for 1kz-te

Post by R-Brasil »

Hello from a newbie in this forum.
Can someone answer to the question: "is possible use a mechanical pump in 1kz-te instead the electronic pump?"
The reasons for this change are:

1) Engine is weak and smoke too much... Toyota mechanics saw that "is the pump.... or something in the ECU" My car is a 4Runner with an adpated 1kz-te: for this reason people here is not able (or simply wont) to determinate the real cause of problem.
2) In any case, ECU cost about 2500 USD here, and the pump about 4500.
Wiring..... nobody know.

So, if is possible use a mech pump without any other modify.... i think that maybe is a good way to solve the problem.

Thanks a lot for any help !!!

yes, there is a 1kz-t motor which uses mechanical VE pump.
depends what pumps you have advailable there. i guess you could find a local VE pump of a similar powered motor. add a boost compensator if it doesn't come with one. no doubt a bit of mucking around getting it tuned.

whats sort of smoke is it making?

Hello tweak'e

thank you for your post.

1) smoke is a black smoke, at any rpm.

Here there are a lot of Hylux with 1kz-t with meck pump: the question is... can i simply take one of these pumps and substitute my elctronic pump ? in other words.... can i put the ECU, the wiring, the pump in the trash can and use a simplier mech pump take from a 1kz-t ?

regards

if i remember right its a straight swap. you wil need new throttle cable of course. it might be better to ask on http://www.toyotasurf.asn.au/forum/ if you havn't done so allready.

black smoke all the time..... either injectors, timing is retarded (ie cambelt slipped a tooth) or EGR is stuck on (block egr and disable egr butterfly in the intake).
