Jimny/Vitara power steer to g13a sierra?

Post by 16ZUK »

I'm doing a power steer conversion on a sierra, fitting a vitara pump and jimny hydro assist box with a 1.3 engine and standard radiator/ radiator supports. Can anyone help me with photos on radiator support clearance to vitara pump pulley? I have looked in the sierra bible but didn't see any posts on this conversion. Thanks, Jeff

I don't think it will clear. I've worked on a 1.3 LWB with a 16V vitara motor and a stock vitara PS pump - the radiator support bracket on the chassis was cut to clear the pulley.

Not 100% though.

definitely doesn't clear

Hey Steve, I've done a quick mock up without bolting up the mounting bracket and pump. It looks like it will clear the chassis mount for the radiator support but the actual radiator support arm is definitely in the way. Just wanting to see if you can cut out enough of the arm for clearance or mod the arm, or would it be a better option to mod the pump mounting bracket?

Can't comment. The car I'm referring to had a body mounted radiator.

I'd be careful about cutting the radiator support bracket.

I recently put power steering in my zook i didnt have any trouble with pump clearance i also fitted a/c compressor at the same time but it is tight. I did have to move the radiator over about 40 mm to clear the p/s box though

I used stock vitara pump and converted all the pulleys to multi rib belt aswell. The bracket for the a/c and p/s pump bolted straight on and it came off a 1.6 carby motor the crank pulley had the be modified to fit the sierra 1.3 though.
this is all i have at the moment

This is how much clearance there is from everything.
Remember the engine tourqes the opposite way.

thanks for the pix, i'm running a trail tough pulley with the standard v belt on the water pump and alternator and the rib belt on the power steer. does the radiator have to be moved to fit the jimny box? if so how did u space it over ?

Zookster, I'm pretty sure that's not the standard configuration though - the PS pump is down the bottom where your AC is AFAIK.

I set up Greg's taxidermist's car with the PS pump up high like yours and the endless air under it and it's been good. (It runs an AU falcon pump)

started on the fit up today

Post by 16ZUK »

I started fitting up the box and pump today. the jimny box fits with no mods , and to make room for the vitara pump with vitara mounting bracket i'll have to cut off radiator support bracket from chassis , re weld further foward and straighten out support arm as steve and nik stated, too easy. Thanks all for help .
