All 4door vitaras are MPI in the australian market, I think the first year for the 4 door was 1991.
SWB's went MPI in late 1994.
Yes they are OK. Carby 1.6's have a habit of cracking the block between the welsh plugs on the drivers side. EFI's have a habit of cracking the heads, but by now, any motor on the market should be sound (i.e it should have already happened)
I wouldn't bother with a vitara EFI motor though as they are dizzy, AFM and have that nasty crossover pipe, they are also more $$ than baleno.
Baleno needs the water pipe and sump mods for the crank angle sensor but then gives you coil packs, MAP and a newer motor (and another 10Kw, I think)
Steve.

careful the first balenos where dizzy
and the first swift based 1.6 where tbi 16v in australia the where mainly sedans
i can only guess but the sierra waterpipe should still do the job on a 1.6 block right?

Yes, and the dizzy baleno would be terrible - straight out the back.
The TBI swift isn't a great candidate - it also has a funny water arrangement.
No, the thermostat housing on a sierra/vitara is on the inlet manifold. There's no provision on a baleno/swift. Vitara and jimny manifolds have the thermostat housing in the right spot.

And the later Grand Vitara G16B (coil pack) is like the Baleno/Jimny inlet, with it coming out the front, however the plenum still raises at the back like the earlier Vitara (Presumably so the plenum sits level in the GV at normal ride). which means the GV engine requires lowering in the Sierra, or a Body lift. No crank sensor in the sump either, is cam sensor.
Wheeling on completely wicked angles, without even looking stable.

Dont have a clue, sorry. can get pics up of the housing this arvo or tomorrow if they are of any use to you?Santos wrote:oooh a cam angle sensor and coil pack, can the cam sensor be retrofitted on dizzy cams? (assuming you use aftermarket ecu)
Sorry but Im not keen to pull out the cam to look at the end of that

Nope.
Coil pack cams have a keyway on the back of them and dizzy cams have a gear.
The cams themselves are interchangeable and aren't all that dear from suzuki.
