Mine is a 98 and had the 2.7 also I went for the 1uz, what is the extra power for? That will help people tell you which is better.
A supercharger or turbo on a 3rz goes well but wouldnt be suitable for towing a large load imo. Mine with the 1uz tows great and still has decent fuel economy also.

hilux
its actually my gfs dads car
he has a small sailing boat and a trayon camper that goes on the tray
probly never tow anything real heavy i guess
but will do a lot of touring across oz
he is just complaining about the power of it when you come to the hills its
just got no balls up them.straight roads are fine.
he drove a new navara the other day and he loved the power he said.
the hilux is sentimental though and has had lots of upgrades in other places set up for camping like lengthend chassis and water tanks all that sort of stuff
