80 Series Disk rear swap

Post by BEAR 80 »

Hey, I have what seems to be a rare drum brake rear 80 Series. I am going to purchase a new disk to disk diff and am woundering if anyone else has done this too, and if there are any down falls or things to look out for? Will the brake lines off the drum set up go straight onto the disk set up?
Any help would be great.

if you drive through bog holes, the mud gets inside the handbrake and chews the linings out so it doesnt hiold anymore.

also if you dont maintain your brakes, they wont work either.

Has anyone done this conversion before? Does the master cylinder need to be replaced?

all i can say is they r a different part number to eachother, but my guess is it would work quite ok....does the drum ass have load sensing proportion valve hanging off the diff??

I got a gxl 80 turbo diesel and have found that if i park it in a pretty steep incline, put it in low range withe the hand brake on it will still roll back verry slowley.

Does anybody make a transbrake?
maybe one for a hilux could be adapted ?

i put a transbrake on my 80 when i did the engine conversion
i fitted a split case transfer from a 60s and fitted a 40 series transbrake on it
never look back I can go in bogs and sloppy sand and has no effect due to the hand brake being high and dry

with my original in disk drum set up on one outing and they would need work

Thrashlux, did you need to get custom tail shafts made, or did the factory 80 Series ones bolt up?
