how easy is it to cut?
im having real trouble getting my drum brake cover off,
i have already stripped 6 sets of bolts in the little holes thats meant to push it off,
now seen as i have all replacement parts how easy is it to just cut around the drum cover or is it easyer to hit the 4 bolts on the back of the housing? and just undo the axle stub bolt???????
whats ya thoughts
its on a hj60

With the star wheel adjuster that winds the shoes out / in, are you turning it the right way? You have to spin the adjuster "down" to loosen, ie start with your adjusting tool at the top of the hole. At the same time, you have to have a screwdriver in there to push the locking tab away from the starwheel, which is the tricky bit given access and the fact that you can't see what you are doing! The starwheel is mounted parallel with the chassis so when looking from the back of the truck on the driver's side, the wheel needs to be turned in an anti-clockwise direction to loosen (I think).
If the brake line's undone then just undo the 4 bolts at the back and take the whole axle out? (after doing something with the handbrake cable)

The drum's not going anywhere unless you do this.904Runa wrote:With the star wheel adjuster that winds the shoes out / in, are you turning it the right way? If there that shagged, there may be too much of a lip on the shoe/drum for it to slide off.
