Diesel Injector Service

Post by carts »

Can anyone recommend a good diesel injection specialist? I have a HJ60 with a/m turbo and I believe my 2H is due for some injector work. Smoke emissions is on the increase, yet depending on where I fill up with diesel will either make the car run good or ordinary...Does anyone else have this problem.

I am located in the North West sector of Sydney (if you don't know where Kenthurst is)!

Your advice is appreciated.
Cheers
Aaron

Aaron,
I would be real suspitious of the fuel quality if the smoke comes and goes with refueling. Do you use the same outlet or some no name outlet?

Sydney should be full of reputable diesel guys and I'm sure it would not be expensive to ask one or two of them to comment.

Do not ... I repeat DO NOT try to save a few bucks by buying 'cheap' diesel. The few cents a L that you save does not go very far when it comes time to rebuild your injector pump etc!!!

Only get your diesel from a reputable seller.

I thought mine was in need of some serious work but it turned out to be a single tank of poor fuel and the smoky emissions / rough running soon dissappeared after a couple of tanks of quality fuel.

I've never been one to try and save a few bucks on fuel, to be honest the price never really worries me. If I need to fill up, i fill up. However, I have been paying particular attention to where I have been filling up. Monty and I have been looking for a servo where the diesel is not green, cause we thought this was giving us grief. Apparently the green is low sulfur diesel. Unfortunately, it is very hard to find a servo without this diesel anymore. We spoke to a fuel delivery guy from Caltex who said "stick with the big name companies and you wont go wrong, and you shouldn't get crap blended fuels." He said the green diesel is the common but there is also a gold diesel which is apparently even lower sulfur again.

The long and short of it is that someone suggested that I prolly need an injector service because the injectors are allowing the different grades of diesel to interfere with the spray pattern.

But I agree, there are definately different quality diesels, and they make a huge difference to perfermance and the way the car runs!

Cool.

I found that the particularly poor quality diesel that resulted in my problems tended to froth badly when I was filling and seemed really soapy or something. I didn't take much notice at the time but it now is something that I look for. Unfortunately I didn't see what colour it was.

Someone also told me that the low sulfur diesels aren't really good for older diesels as it tends to dry out and shrink the seals in the older injector pumps. Does anyone know if this is the case, and what can you do about it? e.g. Is there an additive available?

Also, can anyone recommend a good injector cleaner additive thats potent?

There is some interesting info in these threads:

http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modul ... =additives

Also do a search on "additives". There are a lot of threads on here discussing them.

Bogged,

I assume you have dealt with them before? If so, in general, what sort of cost am I looking at?

West end are damn good. See Devesch there. They are not the cheapest around but are bloody good especially if you are after more power as well. They definately know what they are doing ;) .

I know Mick Christie that worked for them, and West End built the Christie Creation and set it up, that thing smokes.

There was an article in one of the 4b mags on what they did to an 80, and it was very impressive. Cost when I called them was about $2000-2500 for pump rebuild, injectors, and dyno testing to what ever spec you like.

I have heard nothign bad about them, unlike someone to the south of there.. be careful what you say about them, they had lawyers onto another forum, for something that was said about them.!!!!
