A couple of years back it was the Meggallan FX324 was the GPS to have. Good size screen and a number pad.
Large number of people are running the Garmin chartplotters now though.

or the larger

I personally think the GPSMAP3210 is to big. It takes up allot of room in the cab.
Another plus for the garmins. Is that it appears to be easier to link the two units together. SO the navvie plots on there GPS and the info is also sent to a smaller GPS in front of the driver.

But for the previous 3yrs I helped set-up some stages for the OBC using just a Magellan Meridian Platinum. And I wasn't much slower than the guys running the big telly's.

Just remember what ever you get. Learn to use it, both driver and navie. Its amazing the amount of people that learn to use a GPS at the OBC. And there not just the newbies.

The FX324 was a great unit for its time, and alot of people still use them. But Magellan hasn't made it in a few years now. I would probably steer clear of it now though, just because there is better units available (chart plotters) that will be faster and have back up from the manufacturer. AFAIK, Magellan dont do any new software updates for it anymore either. If you do decide to go for a FX324, you will probably find one for $5-600 second hand. I wouldnt pay much more than that for one.
