why cant you get 83% and if its to low put it in 2nd if they are the same price i would go 83%, if 150% was available i would go that why would you pay big money to return the gearing back to standard when you have a chance to have a better low range?

I had the 85% Mark's gears in the Mav'. For rocks it was GREAT, no need to slip clutch at all!! If it's too low, CHANGE GEARS, you've got 5!!

That's my opinion as well. 5th gear low range in my manual can spin the wheels over 50km/hr with a good rev with the 83% (3.74 : 1 red).
If you need to spin the wheels faster than that, then i dont think you should be in low range anyway. If you are doing mud then select 1st high range.

if 1/2 the convoy has 83% and the rest have nothing, its fuckin crap... some tool with his rockhoppers is doing 2kph @ 20,000000 rpm in 5th while everyone else is rammed up their arse in normal low then end up stuck cause they are wantin to drive.

85% seems like a lot hastle for soft sand if you need heaps of horsepower and tyre running less than 14psi.
i've got stock size tyres on my GQ, in the soft sand that i drive i'm never higher then 3rd low, I'm building a case with 83% gears, i figure that will put me in 5th low on the same stuff.
i already use high range on hard packed wet sand and low 2nd or 3rd in mud.
i can't see how anyone thinks 83% is too low when running larger tyres.
first low on 31s isn't low enough, why would you fit bigger tyres and then return the overall gearing back to stock?
