GU 4.5 auto 3.9 ratios and 35"s. On fraser we drove most of the time in high4 easily. Occasionally put it in low but not very often. I think the 83 reduction is overkill especially with 33's to 35's.

What sort of driving do you do?? If its slow stuff eg rocks that are fairly technically go 83% if its mud or alot of sand only go 45% at most

Most of my driving is rock and steep declines and i do the occasional mud runs here and there and bugger all sand driving

I have spoken to a fair few people in brisbane and most guys recommend 43% as the 83s are too slow

why cant you get 83% and if its to low put it in 2nd if they are the same price i would go 83%, if 150% was available i would go that why would you pay big money to return the gearing back to standard when you have a chance to have a better low range?

yea i thought about that but apparently 85s are too low for mud driving or sand driving and i dont do much of either but if i have to then i will

A mate runs 43% gears on 37s and reckons that is sufficient but im only running 35s

100% agree!!

I had the 85% Mark's gears in the Mav'. For rocks it was GREAT, no need to slip clutch at all!! If it's too low, CHANGE GEARS, you've got 5!!

That's my opinion as well. 5th gear low range in my manual can spin the wheels over 50km/hr with a good rev with the 83% (3.74 : 1 red).

If you need to spin the wheels faster than that, then i dont think you should be in low range anyway. If you are doing mud then select 1st high range.

Your right, because it's so hard and takes so long to change from high to low...

I'll repeat what bigbluemav said. Let some air out of your tyres!!!! 14psi isn't low.

I don't know how long it takes a retard to change from low to high, but it takes me a matter of seconds and no body has ever had to 'wait' for me to switch between either...

So you agree with me, good to see.
Its totally dependant on the type of driving you do...
if 1/2 the convoy has 83% and the rest have nothing, its fuckin crap... some tool with his rockhoppers is doing 2kph @ 20,000000 rpm in 5th while everyone else is rammed up their arse in normal low then end up stuck cause they are wantin to drive.

14 psi isn't low but my MTZs bag out heaps at 14psi so there' s no need to go lower.

Get yourself some horsepower and you will never want low range in the sand.

And if you are getting stuck in soft sand at 14psi tyre pressure then :finger: GET SOME MORE HORSEPOWER. :finger:

:D :D

I have never been bogged is sand :finger:

85% seems like a lot hastle for soft sand if you need heaps of horsepower and tyre running less than 14psi.

i've got stock size tyres on my GQ, in the soft sand that i drive i'm never higher then 3rd low, I'm building a case with 83% gears, i figure that will put me in 5th low on the same stuff.
i already use high range on hard packed wet sand and low 2nd or 3rd in mud.

i can't see how anyone thinks 83% is too low when running larger tyres.

first low on 31s isn't low enough, why would you fit bigger tyres and then return the overall gearing back to stock?
